Futures and Options hosted its fourth annual Dream Big – A Celebration of Opportunity at Stone Rose Lounge in the Time Warner Center on October 22. Dream Big, the organization’s signature fundraising event, raised over $625,000 to support its career and college-readiness programs.
This year’s Dream Big honoree was Jason G. New, Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group and Head of Special Situation Investing for GSO Capital Partners. This award recognizes business leaders who have gone above and beyond in helping young students develop their professional skills, acquire higher education and achieve their big career dreams.
“Tonight, we honored those who exemplify a deep commitment to ensuring the success of New York City’s next generation of leaders,” says Futures and Options Board Chair Stephen Hessler. “Most importantly, we recognize the students in our programs, who inspire all of us with their drive and determination at a remarkably young age.”
The event also recognizes the diligence and tenacity of Futures and Options students. Futures and Options awards college scholarships to high school seniors through a competitive application process. This year, the Barbara L. Christen College Scholarship, named in honor of the organization’s founder, was awarded to Fatoumata Barry. The IPG Mediabrands Scholarship and Internship, which is sponsored by IPG Mediabrands, was awarded to Angeline Harry and Deja Jenkins, who are interested in careers in media and advertising.
Much of the extraordinary support of this year’s Dream Big comes from the restructuring and distressed investing community. Nearly 50 companies have stepped up as sponsors of the event, including Kirkland & Ellis, Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, Houlihan Lokey, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Evercore Partners and AlixPartners.
“This is the third year the restructuring and distressed investing community has teamed up to support Futures and Options. Their support is beyond extraordinary, and truly impacts our organization’s ability to reach more NYC kids,” says Executive Director Patty Machir.
